Zhi-Ying James (Jim) Fang Senior Partner/Attorney

Jim has 30 years of experience in China-related international business transactions. He structures, documents and negotiates strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate restructuring, asset-based financing and equipment leasing for U.S. and international manufacturing and private equity clients. Jim assists clients in an array of industries, including financial, insurance, automobile, retail, chemical, semiconductor, clean energy, machinery, computer and pharmaceutical. He regularly provides advice in intellectual property protection strategies and in handling troubled business workouts in China. Jim also represents China-based companies doing business in the U.S. Jim is a founder of the firm’s Shanghai Office and a foreign arbitrator of the Shanghai Arbitration Committee.
Jim’s clients benefit greatly from his profound understanding of US and Chinese culture, business practices and systems and his ability to advise clients from a comparative law perspective.
Jim's clients include: Bank of China, U.S. High Speed Rail Project Consortium under the Ministry of Railway, China Eastern Airlines, Genencor International, W.L Gore & Associates, The Timken Company, and WPMI LLC, a WellPoint company.
Jim received his Master of Laws from the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences Law Institute, and both his LL.M. and Ph.D. in Comparative Law from the University of Washington School of Law. He is fluent in English, and Chinese is his native language.

方律师从上海社科院法律研究所取得硕士学位，并从华盛顿大学法学院取得法学硕士和在比较法方面的博士学位。他能流利地使用英语，且中文是其母语。
